CARBIDE is built upon technology used in PHAROS high power lasers using chirped pulse amplification technique, employing seed oscillator, regenerative amplifier and pulse stretcher/compressor modules. However compared to predecessor, CARBIDE uses few technological innovations: simplified pump diode setup, compactified laser cavity optimized for efficient output, integrated cooling and power supply.

Output of the new CARBIDE laser is >10 W at 1028 nm wavelength, with highest pulse energies of >100 μJ. It maintains all the best features of its predecessor PHAROS: variable pulse repetition rate in the range of 60 - 1000 kHz / 100 - 1000 kHz with the built-in pulse picker feature for pulse output control, computer controllable pulse duration 290 fs – 10 ps. However, the most impressive feature of CARBIDE is its size of 631x324x167 mm including integrated power supply and air cooling unit. This represents about 7 times reduction in system volume as compared to PHAROS, already one of the most compact ultrafast lasers on the market.
Another important feature is dramatically reduced power consumption (~200 W 12 V DC).  For applications where air turbulence and/or heat dissipation in the vicinity of the laser is highly undesirable, CARBIDE can be configured for water cooling as well.
