TiPA

Single-Shot Autocorrelator TiPA is an invaluable tool for alignment of femtosecond laser systems. Its unique design allows monitoring and measurements of the pulse duration from 30fs to 1ps in wavelength range 500nm - 2000nm as well as 2-dimensional measurement of the pulse front tilt.

Operation of TiPA is based on non-collinear second harmonic (SH) generation, where the spatial distribution of the SH light contains information on the temporal shape of the fundamental light pulse. This technique combines low background and the single-shot measurement capability. The basic idea is that two replicas of a fundamental ultrashort light pulse pass non-collinearly through a nonlinear crystal, in which SH generation takes place. SH beam’s width and tilt in a plane perpendicular to propagation provide information about the pulse duration and tilt of pulse front.

The SH beam can be monitored at two output ports simultaneously:
1. Dirrect output- the beam can be viewed on a paper card (useful for alignment and quick optimization without a computer).
2. Output into a CCD camera- pulse duration and pulse-front tilt measurement is done using dedicated software.

The width (a dimension which lies in the beams’ intersection plane) of the SH pattern is proportional to the duration of the incident pulse. If the pulse front is tilted the output SH ellipse is also tilted with respect to the beams’ intersection plane. (Un-tilted pulse produces SH ellipse perpendicular to the beams’ intersection plane).
